Looking for a New Blog System

I received word that my current blog setup can’t take comments (of any type) or apparently TrackBacks. sigh. In my quest to rid spam in my blog comments, I managed to kill discourse. Hope that’s not an omen!

I think it’s time to upgrade this blog system. Any suggestions? Not that my comments system will allow feedback. :(
My requirements:

  • A wiki-esque input system, to rid myself of typing tags.
  • Good SemWeb Support: FOAF and RDF of everything.
  • Good Spam Filtering
  • The usual: comments, trackback, categories, etc
  • Simple Setup
  • Import of all my current MovableType posts

In the meantime, off to fix comments for the non-spammy.

UPDATE: I removed the uber-greedy spam filter regex that was causing the problems. Because emails are required, they were setting off the alaram. Good thing I’m in Hawaii, where we love Spam.

    Use b2evolution - http://b2evolution.net/

It is offspring of b2 (same ar wordpress), has good spam filtering (based on a peer contributed spam black-list), has multiple-blogs multiple category hierarchy and has simple setup and unicode multi-language support.

Multi hierarchy is especially nice for RDF - certainly better suited than just having keywords. However, I am not aware of more RDF and FOAF add-ons.

For more info you could direct questions to b2 forums: http://forums.b2evolution.net/

Thanks CaptSolo! That’s one at the top of my lists. I was also considering checking out Semantic Blogging engine from the Jena guys

You are in Hawaii? Wow, that must be a nice place! :)
BTW - check out this link - might be quite useful. ;)

Well, Hawaii is nice, but there are lot of things about it that aren’t so nice. Housing prices, for one, are extremely insane. Plus, it’s not balanced with high salaries (like NYC or SanFran might be). People get paid in coconuts it seems.

Thanks for the good link! Ironically, where is all the RDF for that conference, especially those papers? :)

I use wordpress and am happy with it. Comments spam was a big problem until I found authimage http://www.gudlyf.com/index.php?p=376 which does a nice job of fixing that.

I’m not foafed yet, but this does seem to be popular with people…e.g. http://www.wasab.dk/morten/2004/07/foaf-output.txt

Check out NucleusCMS ( http://www.nucleuscms.org ). It is pretty good and has support for plugins. There are plenty of those in contrib section. I am not sure if there is a Wiki input engine for it, but it has a pretty nice WYSIWYG editor, so you won’t have to type any tags if you don’t want to.

Oh, and there is a version with many plugins preconfigured, few themes, and sane defaults. You might want try that instead. It is called Blog:CMS and it is available from http://blogcms.com/

Both are free of charge and GPLed.
